New Yorkers: Ask Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to hold a Town Hall in NYC!

Neither Senator Schumer nor Senator Gillibrand have held a town hall in New York City since the election, but we know they have been working hard on behalf of New Yorkers and all Americans.

With so much under attack - immigrants, healthcare, public schools, the environment, civil and voting rights, FACTs and even our Democracy - we want to meet with (and hear from) our elected officials more than ever.

Up2Us is working with nine NY Metro area Indivisible groups to encourage both Senators to host an event during the Senate recess next week.

Join us in calling our Senators on Wednesday, May 24th.

Senator Schumer:

D.C.:  (202) 224-6542

NYC: (212) 486-4430

Binghamton: (607) 772-6792

Buffalo: (716) 846-4111

Peekskill: (914) 743-1532

Syracuse: (315) 423-5471

Rochester: (585) 263-5866

Melville: (631) 753-0978

Albany: (518) 431-4070

Senator Gillibrand:

D.C.: (202) 224-4451

NYC: (212) 688-6262

Syracuse: (315) 448-0470

Rochester: (585) 263-6250

Buffalo: (716) 854-9725

Albany: (518) 431-0120

LI:  (631) 249-2825

Hudson Valley: (212) 688-6262

Below is a suggested Script:

Hi, my name is…        and I’m a constituent from…       I’m calling  to ask the Senator to host a town hall in NYC during the upcoming Senate recess.

Will the Senator be holding any public events in NYC during the next recess?

If no:   Why not?

I believe that now, more than ever, it is essential for elected officials to hear directly from constituents in order to know what to prioritize back in DC. If not during this recess, when will the Senator hold a town hall in NYC?

Join us tomorrow Saturday, May 6th at Chappaqua Station for a Charity Art Auction.  A preview catalog is available online HERE.  With starting bids as low as $15, anyone can find something!

In addition to the silent auction, raffle tickets will be available for purchase for $5 each (or 5 for $20) and refreshments can be purchased from the host cafe, Chappaqua Station.

The event is being called BLOOM, in honor of the phrase “Bloom where you are planted.”Up2Us was inspired to action when Hillary Rodham Clinton first shared this famous saying.  In the months following the election, Up2Us has grown to a 3700 member group with members working on political action, community support and progressive issues.

The art auction will feature pieces donated by local artists of all ages.  The silent auction will have items at all price points with proceeds benefiting the Pleasantville Community Garden and other area charities.  Admission is free and the BLOOM Auction is open to the public.  The Garden is dedicated to battling hunger in Westchester County where approximately 1 in 5 residents (200,000 people including many children) suffer from hunger and/or food insecurity.

The garden was created by Devin Juros in 2011 then an 11 year old student at Pleasantville Middle School.  To date, the organization has donated more than 34,000 pounds of fresh produce to 4 local organizations – Hillside Food Outreach, Pleasantville Interfaith Emergency Food Pantry, A-Home and Neighbor’s Link. More than 200 volunteers work with the organization annually including at least 60 kids from ages 5 through 18.

Up2Us is thrilled to be working with local artists and the Pleasantville Community Garden to bring this event to Chappaqua.  Selected pieces which will be available can be seen at https://www.up2us.us/bloom/  Up2Us always welcomes new members and like-minded organizations to join them.  For the most up to date samples and information, see the BLOOM page on Facebook.

From The Daily Kos:

CONNECTICUT SENATE SPECIAL ELECTION FEBRUARY 28

Prior to the November 2016 election Democrats enjoyed a 21-15 majority in the State Senate. Republicans gained 3 seats to tie the chamber at 18-18. Two vacancies arose since the election, one Democrat, and one Republican seat. Whoever wins these races could determine which party controls the chamber.

Special elections are notorious for their remarkably low turnout and low turnout elections all tend to favor the Republican on the ballot. We must engage in these races to drive turnout as much as possible. And there is little time. Below are the Democratic candidates that need your support. If you are in the New England states these races I am certain could use your help.

Senate District 32 was formerly a Republican seat and House District 115 poses the hardest seat to win of the 3 (according to a local kossak). I am sure they can all use help though.

I believe there is public financing for these state races in Connecticut.

Not Going Back!

Today's Daily Action is to call on both of your Senators to publicly condemn the Trump administration’s reversal of Obama's recently enacted protections for transgender students, which played a critical role in reducing the alarmingly high suicide rate among transgender teens--and all because Trump wants to score political points with the extremists of the religious right.
